Daily Duas
A dua is a supplication — speaking to Allah. The Prophet ﷺ taught short words for ordinary moments so remembrance fits a normal day. This page includes only wordings that are well established. Where a longer classroom version exists, we keep the authentic core.
Before eating
Starting with Allah’s name
بِسْمِ اللهِ
Bismillāh
In the name of Allah.
The Prophet ﷺ taught mentioning Allah’s name before eating (Sahih Muslim).If you forgot at the beginning
بِسْمِ اللهِ أَوَّلَهُ وَآخِرَهُ
Bismillāhi awwalahū wa ākhirah
In the name of Allah, at its beginning and its end.

Praise after food
الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا وَجَعَلَنَا مُسْلِمِينَ
Al-ḥamdu lillāhil-ladhī aṭ‘amanā wa saqānā wa ja‘alanā muslimīn
All praise is for Allah, who fed us, gave us drink, and made us Muslims.

After sleep
الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ
Al-ḥamdu lillāhil-ladhī aḥyānā ba‘da mā amātanā wa ilayhin-nushūr
All praise is for Allah, who gave us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.

When lying down
بِاسْمِكَ اللّٰهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا
Bismika Allāhumma amūtu wa aḥyā
In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live.

When going out
بِسْمِ اللهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ
Bismillāhi tawakkaltu ‘alallāh, wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh
In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah. There is no power and no strength except with Allah.

Enter with the name of Allah and greet those inside with salam (peace). A specific longer wording is taught in some collections; if you are unsure of the exact Arabic, Bismillah and Assalamu alaikum are a sound, simple practice.
Travel
When setting out
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ، وَإِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا لَمُنقَلِبُونَ
Subḥānal-ladhī sakhkhara lanā hādhā wa mā kunnā lahū muqrinīn, wa innā ilā rabbinā lamunqalibūn
Glory be to the One who has subjected this to us, and we could not have done it by ourselves. And to our Lord we will surely return.

Entering the masjid
اللّٰهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ
Allāhumma iftaḥ lī abwāba raḥmatik
O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.

اللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ
Allāhumma innī as’aluka min faḍlik
O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty.

A short dhikr
سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ
Subḥānallāhi wa biḥamdih
Glory be to Allah, and praise is His.
Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim mention this remembrance in the morning and evening.Important notes
- Pronounce Arabic with a teacher when you can. Meaning in the heart matters even while you are still learning the sounds.
- Do not add unsourced “virtue” stories to these duas.
